Molecular Interaction of bitumen and silicate aggregate

Arizona State University

  • Study of asphalt properties and investigation of the effect of modifiers on asphalt binder.

  • Multi-scale characterization of asphalt materials and make a connection between macro-scale properties and nano-scale molecular interactions.

  • Studied the effect of paraffin wax, polymers and rubber on bitumen and modified asphalt binder using dynamic shear rheometer with different spindle size, temperature and frequency

  • Studied low-temperature properties of bituminous materials using bending beam rheometer and direct tension test as well

  • Viscosity testing of materials and softening point

  • Using differential scanning calorimetry to study thermal properties of bitumen

  • Utilizing of thermogravimetric analysis and X-ray diffraction on bitumen

  • Analysis of thermal properties of visco-elastic materials and connection to rheology

  • Gel permeation chromatography of polymers especially bitumen

  • Thin-layer chromatography with flame ionization detection

  • Gas-chromatography and mass spectroscopy of chemical samples
